Santi Suede- “Doomed”

Santi-Suede-China-Heart

How to pin it down? The work of the Philly-based Santi Suede is a boozy blend of ragged Animal Collective, warbly Bright Eyes and gleefully mischievous Mac DeMarco but that still doesn’t entirely describe it. There’s some background vocal manipulation that could generously be compared to what Frank Ocean was up to on blond and gallows humor that would make the Los Campesinos crew proud. Case in point: “Doomed.” The cut from new EP China Heart effectively revels in the fact that we’re all going off the cliff at some point. “The future’s fruitless” Suede laconically gargles early in the shambolic proceedings. This is Judgement Day music made by someone with exactly zero interest in the end. If the weather’s nice, great. If not, what’s the difference? It’s all coming down anyway.

China Heart is out now and warrants a listen.
