Jlin is good at making music. I almost feel like stopping at that because attempting to capture the vital, urgent, relentlessly forward-thinking feeling of her music does her a tremendous disservice. Like a lot of other masters of form, her footwork/IDM efforts succeed because of intangible qualities. The hypnotic sleekness of her Adult Swim Single “ICU” isn’t measurable, it just is. It’s one giant whoosh after another where the only real constant is movement. There isn’t a single, solitary second in the track from the Gary, Indiana artist where her brain doesn’t seem to be firing in a million different directions. So when it’s apparent her work could almost veer off into any direction, how is it ever possible to fully convey? Best just to listen.
