It’s rare that feelings of complete and total joy come out of nowhere. Typically there’s a build toward that type of contentment. The grin on your face grows bigger and bigger until your beaming, positively radiant.
So it goes with Kate Lomas’ slow cresting “Ecstasy.” The Wiltshire-based singer doesn’t start at 11, she gently edges the knob upward. She starts out lying on the concrete with her gaze lost in the heavy lights overhead. Soon enough, the time drifts away and Lomas is in that titular state. The song’s percussion becomes more pronounced and the electronics fire off in every direction as Lomas euphorically describes a love that “lets the dark be.” Being ecstatic isn’t simply about being comfortable with yourself but with your surroundings as well. And with this number, Lomas is totally ecstatic.
