Elsa Carmona’s new single “Run Baby Run” conjures up images of fellow Swede Lykke Li blasting Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” It’s a sleek maelstrom of an electronic pop track, one that’s intently focused on toppling dominant power structures and quelling a lust for revenge. Carmona says she was inspired by the show Penny Dreadful and Vanessa Ives’ character coming face-to-face with the devil. That well of inspiration is perfect for “Run Baby Run” which is all slithering synth parts and thrumming bass lines. When it opens up in the chorus, when Carmona’s voice sounds fully empowered, you can just imagine the final confrontation. Whatever’s been happening won’t happen much longer.
