English electronic-pop duo Junior Empire summarize their new single, “Danger,” as “that moment when someone first catches your eye. A pure animal instinct that, for better or worse, forces you to take action,” and hearing the propulsive cut that descriptor makes all the sense in the world. It’s giddy with flitting synthesizers and some high-end singing, but marked with the uncertainty of palpitating drums. There’s an unquestionably singular focus in the tune, not unlike what happens after you first lock eyes with someone. Everything and everyone else is sloughed off and there are just “two strangers in a room.” Whatever happens next, both in the song and in life, is just out of view.
