The neon haze of New York house producer Baltra’s new tune “Tears Drop” is undeniably hypnotic. There’s a sort-of music box figure playing in the background, which sounds like either the stray sound from an abandoned carnival or a sample on the first Wu-Tang Clan record, that forces you to lean further in. The drums of “Tears Drop” gently pat at you rather than pulverize ya. Baltra includes a bassline which just sort of hums along. And then the vocals. The vocals swirl around the channels. They exhale “and when my tears drop” before re-submerging into the ambient ether. They’re the ultimate siren song, beckoning you to venture out into the dark of night.
Baltra put out a tape earlier this year which you can get on his Bandcamp page.
